Where We Go
Our core program “Each One Teach One”
Encourages our children to celebrate their diversity, while recognizing their ONENESS. One Love.
Montego Bay, Jamaica
In Jamaica, the program operates out of One Love’s organic farm and learning center based at Hammerstein Highland House (HHH) in Montego Bay, in partnership with several primary and basic schools in Hanover and St. James Parishes. The program serves the school’s student body as well as children from the community surrounding HHH.
Cape Town South Africa
In South Africa, before One Love came to the Cavalleria School, the students’ diets consisted of rice and soy products on a daily basis with no fresh fruit or vegetables. The One Love Garden now produces supplementary fresh fruits and vegetables daily for 600 students. The added nutrition had a profound effect. In the space of just four years, Cavalleria Primary dramatically increased its numeracy pass rate from 2.9 percent to 44.7 percent. (You can read the news story about this amazing transformation here.)
Atlanta, GA USA
Atlanta is the site of two of our newest school-based garden initiatives. We have installed gardens at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School and Maynard Jackson High School. We are helping to enhance the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Program taking shape at Dunbar Elementary and the Diploma Program that has been established at Jackson High School. Our program allows elementary students to apply the science standards they learn in the classroom to the cultivation of a garden that will eventually benefit their community. It allows high school students to fulfill their Diploma Program’s Creativity, Action, and Service requirements as they cultivate produce, sell what they grow at market, and learn the basics of creating a sustainable food system. Most importantly, we connect our Atlanta students to the students we engage in Jamaica and South Africa through our Soil, Soul, Society Global Leadership Initiative.
